You have probably had a thought go through your mind that you would have preferred not to have. For example, maybe you were trying to concentrate on a task and a thought popped into your head about something you had to do later that day. Maybe you then started to worry about whether you had enough time to complete the task you were working on. Or maybe you found yourself thinking about an argument you had with a family member, and then you began to wonder if you should have said something differently. It’s a common assumption that our minds are separate from our bodies. The brain is responsible for our thoughts and actions, while the body is little more than a collection of functions and systems that carry out our commands. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. The body and mind are inseparable.

Appreciate the Mind/Body connection – The human mind is a powerful and mysterious thing. Even now, as you read this article, your mind is undoubtedly active and engaged. Your memory is probably functioning at peak efficiency, your thoughts are racing through your mind like a runaway train, and your ability to focus is razor-thin. The mind is an active, constantly-changing entity, and in many ways, it is superior to the body itself. Once you understand that our mind and body are interconnected, you begin to accept that we are not our thoughts. Our thoughts control emotions and our emotions affects our thoughts and consequently our feelings.

Accept the moment – Once you start to notice your thoughts and emotions, and how they relate to your actions, you get better at maintaining self-awareness in every situation. It’s tempting to try to control your thoughts by ignoring or suppressing bad feelings, but this method will backfire. Trying to control your thoughts is like trying to control the symptoms of a disease instead of treating it. You must accept your emotions and ask yourself, “What is this emotion trying to teach me?” Allow yourself to feel it and take what you’ve learned from it.

Shift your attention – Our emotions and thoughts aren’t always happy. That is an unavoidable truth of life. You’ll be able to shift your attention away from the negative emotions once you’re able to recognise and embrace them nonetheless. If you’re wondering how to harness your mind, positive thinking can help you minimise stress and sadness while also making you feel more satisfied. Choosing to focus on the good does not imply that you ignore your troubles or think your life is wonderful. It entails accepting the fact that life happens for you rather than to you. It entails choosing to focus on the positive rather than the negative aspects of life and expressing gratitude on a daily basis. Fear fades away and abundance emerges when you are appreciative. There’s no room for negativity when you’re in a state of fulfillment.

Practice Mindfulness – Have you ever felt that you are trying to focus on something very important but your mind is wondering about something completely different? Have you ever struggled to remember where you put your keys, which you just had in five minutes before? Or forgetting whether you locked the door or had to double check if you locked your car? How many times you have reached your destination without knowing anything about the journey? All these signs indicate that you are living your life on autopilot. It is easy to lose focus when we live our life on autopilot. However, Mindfulness meditation is one of the most proven methods to bring peace and keep your thoughts centered.
